این پژوهش به بررسی توزیع فضایی فعالیت‌های صنعتی و عوامل مؤثر در شکل‌گیری چنین توزیعی می‌پردازد. به منظور اندازه‌گیری توزیع فضایی صنعت، از شاخص تمرکز فضایی الیسون و گلیسر (EG) استفاده شده و این شاخص برحسب متغیر ارزش افزوده برای 30 استان کشور و برای دوره 1392- 1385 محاسبه شده است. همچنین برای برآورد اثر عوامل مؤثر بر میزان تمرکز فضایی فوق از مدل پانل دیتای فضایی استفاده شده است. نتایج محاسبات این مطالعه نشان می‌دهد که توزیع فعالیت‌های صنعتی در بین استان‌های ایران، شدیداً نابرابر است. بطوریکه استان‌های آذربایجان شرقی، مرکزی، قزوین و تهران با مقادیر شاخص 03/0، 04/0، 05/0 و 06/0 به ترتیب صنعتی‌ترین و استان‌های بوشهر، هرمزگان و ایلام نیز به ترتیب با مقادیر 68/0، 28/0 و 26/0 کمترین صنعت را در خود دارند. نتایج حاصل از برآورد مدل نیز نشان می‌دهد که وابستگی فضایی بین استان‌ها، معادل 31/0 است. بازدهی فزاینده نسبت به مقیاس و هزینه‌های حمل و نقل، هر یک با ضرایب 07/0 و 001/0 بر روی توزیع فضایی صنعت مؤثر هستند
