Mohammad Bagher Vazirizadeh, Esmat Khoeini,
Volume 20, Issue 72 (5-2012)
Abstract

Dependency nominal phrases are among the main kinds of nominal phrases. These phrases have spread in kinds and types. In this paper, we investigate these kinds of phrases in the whole text of Tarikh-e-Balámi from the historical grammar perspective. This work is indeed one of the first remained Dari Persian manuscripts. More specifically, we study issues that have historical aspects or are semantical and considered as stylistic features. The method adopted in this study is based on the definitions and divisions that late professor Farshidvard who wrote extensively on these nominal groups. Also, we use other grammar books, whenever they are relevant to our discussion. The main goal of this article is providing an accurate historical recognition of dependency nominal phrases that are subtle issues in syntax and are considered as frequently used syntactic groups in discourse. It is assumed that the scientific investigation of grammatical subjects in a specific text may enrich the historical grammar and also may shed lights on old texts.

Abstract

Most traditional grammarians in describing conjunctive make use of metaphoric genitive construction. However, one can see that there is a great difference between the two genitive constructions. The most important difference is the analogical structure which exists in the metaphoric genitive construction but it does not exist in conjunctive. Unlike grammarians who consider that the adjunct in this genitive construction is the main goal in conjunctive, what is considered here is the combination of the adjunct and the governed word and not just either of them alone. In most of the sentences in which there is a conjunctive, if we omit the adjunct or the governed word, the sentence will have a figurative meaning, a meaning which derives from the genitive construction. The strategy that traditional grammarians have suggested for identifying the characteristics of conjunctive is incorrect. Grammarians who have studied the subject from a linguistic perspective also did not explain this properly and they have only paid attention to the appearance of the compound and have neglected the meaning differences. This study concludes that in explaining the conjunctive we should not make a comparison between conjunctive and metaphoric genitive construction. The only resemblance of these two genitive constructions is in the structure “core + e + dependent.” If in examining genitive constructions only the structure is considered, all of the genitive constructions will be put in one group.  But paying attention only to the form of the compound does not complete the grammatical concepts. In grammatical investigations, it is better to consider the structure and meaning at the same time. Having said that the purpose of conjunctive is the figurative meaning of this kind of genitive construction and is not the adjunct or the governed word alone.

Abstract

Contemporary poetry can be divided into the poetry of before and after the Islamic Revolution. Among the post-revolutionary poetry, the Pishro or avant-garde Poetry is the most important style of poetry. The well-known figure of this kind of poetry is Reza Baraheni (1935- ) who became the most influential poet of the Post-Revolution Poetry with the publication of his Khetab be Parvane ha and introducing his literary ideas in different articles. Baraheni attempts in his poetic theory, which is known as lingual theory, to reach multilingualism in poetry, multiplicity of forms and language, disintegration of meaning, disintegration of narrative, disintegration of grammar, formalism, and disintegration of description. In the present study, topics such as morphological innovations and morphological and syntactic deviations in Khetab be Parvane ha are studied. As a result, deviations in these poems are divided into two: the successful linguistic part where Baraheni manages to bring some new words into Persian language without disturbing its morphological structure, and the unsuccessful syntactic part where all the rules governing the sentence have been disturbed.

Abstract

In the semantic functionalism approach, language constructs are examined according to three specific views: Ideational, interpersonal, and textual. These three, calledmetafunctions, form the basis of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL). Halliday, the founder of systemic functional linguistics, believes that the patterns of experience and mental concepts of the creators of works are reflected in the verbal processesof ideationalmetafunction. Therefore, by examining the types of processes, and the factors and circumstances that create them, one can become aware of the ideas and experiences of the creators of literary works and analyze the factors influencing their formation.Considering this aim and adopting a descriptive-analytical approach, Ebtehaj lyrics, based on their constructive discourse, were divided into three historical periods and after determining the frequency and describing the function of verbal processes as astylistic feature their constituent factors were analyzed. The findings show the extensive application of the material process and then the relational process to other systemic functional linguistics processes. The reason for the high frequency and type of application of the mentioned processes, as well as the small representation of other main and secondary processes ofideationalmetafunction in Ebtehaj sonnets should be considered in factors such as the effect of meaning on the formation of the language of the work, political and social changes of the poet’s time, his special mood and stylistics, the importance of the role of the audience in his thought, as well as his drawing inspiration from earlier and contemporary poets.
