Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the efficiency of provincial administrations of the ministry of sport & youth by using non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis. Inputs and outputs of the research were selected by the expert’s choice. Inputs for provincial sport administrations included staff, budget and sport facility capitation (percapita). Outputs for provincial sport administrations were included sports for all, championship sports, sport instructions, make new sport facility, sport events and active sport associations. Then the checklists were sent to the administrations. 28 administrations from 30 provinces completed the checklists. Data were analyzed by using DEA Solver software. Output oriented CCR and BCC models in Data Envelopement Analysis were used. Results showed that in 2008, 16 (%57) provincial sport administrations were globally efficient. In 2009, 17(%60) and in 2010, 15 (%53) of administrations were globally efficient. Also the results showed that the scale inefficiency was the most important resource of administrations’s inefficiency. It is essensial for administrations to use optimal level of resourses to prevent scale inefficiency.

Abstract

In the case of football it could be argued that the purpose of teams is to win the competitions in which they participated. However, the assessment of  football teams from the efficiency aspect would be relevant in judging whether the results have been obtained without waste. The purpose of this research is to compare  and  analysis of league ranking with  Potential and efficiency ranking. The chosen sample is football teams who played in 2009-2010 season of  Iranian  pro league and the method of calculating the efficiency will be  output- oriented version of  Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). In this research, performance, potential and efficiency of each team respectively considered as, The points and ranks achieved by each team in league. The points and ranks achievable  by each team and the ratio of points achieved to points achievable by each team. The main conclusion is that the ranking of teams based on performance, potential and efficiency is not the same. performance evaluation system of league that based on sporting results, don’t represent the efficiency of teams. Therefore, it seems, that performance of teams evaluated based on efficiency and with respect to their potentials is needed.

Abstract

Background: Firefighters encounter critical and hazardous situations that necessitate optimal and rapid performance during emergencies. Given the complexity of their responsibilities and the psychological pressures stemming from daily tasks, it is crucial to investigate methods to enhance their performance. This study aimed to assess the impact of mindfulness exercises on the coordination, executive functions, and specialized motor skills of firefighters.
Aim: The study utilized a semi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test assessments.
Methodology: This study was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test involving a control group. The statistical population consisted of firefighters from fire stations in Shiraz province, and six stations were selected using a multi-stage cluster sampling method from a total of 24 stations. Thirty firefighters were matched based on their pre-test scores and randomly divided into two groups of 15 each: a control group and an experimental group. The experimental group received mindfulness training for eight weeks, with three 30-minute sessions each week. The assessment tools included the Grooved Pegboard Test, the N-back Test, and specialized motor skill tests for firefighters. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA).
Results: The mindfulness intervention significantly improved the experimental group's performance in coordination (p < 0.001), specialized motor skills (p = 0.044), and executive functions (p < 0.001). However, no significant difference was observed in pipe opening/closing tasks (p = 0.087).
Conclusion: Mindfulness exercises may enhance critical abilities in firefighters and could inform the design of effective training programs.
