با توجه به پیشرفت استفاده از طب سنتی در تحقیقات اخیر، عصاره بادرنجبویه به عنوان عامل اثرگذار بر چربی خون و کاهنده استرس جسمانی و روانی موردتوجه قرارگرفته است. بر این اساس، هدف مطالعه حاضر بررسی اثر حاد مصرف عصاره هیدروالکی بادرنجبویه بر هزینه سوخت و سازی، اکسایش سوبسترا و کورتیزول بزاقی هنگام و پس از فعالیت تناوبی شدید است. تعداد 10 نفر از زنان غیرفعال (شاخص توده بدنی 60/0 ± 28/22 کیلوگرم بر مترمربع) در 2 جلسه مجزا در آزمون شرکت کردند. آزمودنی­ها در جلسه اول، عصاره هیدروالکلی بادرنجبویه (500 میلی­گرم) و در جلسه دوم، دارونما (500 میلی‌گرم نشاسته) را 60 دقیقه قبل از انجام فعالیت تناوبی شدید (11 تناوب دویدن 1 دقیقه کار و 2 دقیقه استراحت به ترتیب با شدت 90 و 60 درصد max2vVO) مصرف نمودند. هزینه سوخت و سازی و اکسایش سوبسترا با استفاده از دستگاه تجزیه و تحلیل گازهای تنفسی، ضربان قلب با استفاده از ضربان­سنج پولار و کورتیزول بزاقی به روش نورتابی شیمیایی اندازه­گیری شد. نتایج نشان داد در دو گروه بادرنجبویه و دارونما بین شاخص­های میانگین اکسیژن مصرفی (51/0=P)، اکسایش چربی (9/0=P)، نسبت تبادل تنفسی (76/0=P)، هزینه انرژی (6/0=P)، ضربان قلب (42/0=P) و کورتیزول بزاقی (15/0=P) تفاوت معنی­داری وجود نداشت. بر اساس یافته­های این مطالعه، مصرف عصاره هیدروالکلی بادرنجبویه همراه با انجام فعالیت تناوبی شدید تأثیری بر هزینه سوخت و سازی، اکسایش سوبسترا و سطح کورتیزول در زنان غیرفعال ندارد.
