Abstract

Warm up method can be considered as a strategy for improving athlete’s performance. The purpose of this study was to provide a useful data as warm up to improve the performance of athletes, including volleyball players by increasing their jump height. In the present review study by using the following keywords included Post-Activation Potentiation, Squat Jump, Warm-up, Volleyball, Jump Height, Force Plate, and electromyography the search process was done in Google scholar, the Pubmed databases and Scientific Information database and Google scholar. In the identification stage, 387 English and 15 Persian articles related to the mentioned keywords were found. Finally, the number of  English articles reached 42 and the number of Persian articles reached 6. The results of this review-descriptive study showed in the final stages of Post-Activation Potentiation warm-up, performing high intensity squats by creating acute changes in neuromuscular system can increase in jump height of athletes including volleyball players in match and practice.

Abstract

Background and purpose: Determining specific abilities and skills in volleyball players depends on the amount of anthropometric, physiological, biomechanics and psychological characteristics of the players in this field and is vital for improving the performance of sports skills in them. Since by comparing these important factors in the group of teenagers and young adults, it is possible to guide teenagers towards success factors in youth and adulthood, the purpose of this research was to compare the main characteristics of elite teenage and young male volleyball players.
Methods: 30 male members of the national youth volleyball team of the Islamic Republic of Iran (15 youths and 15 teenagers) were examined in terms of their main anthropometric, biomechanics, physiological and psychological characteristics with the aim of evaluating and determining the main components and comparing them.  In order to determine he main components of the evaluated indicators, first the PCA statistical method and then the independent t statistical method were used to compare the two groups(0.05≥p).
Results: Among the main indices of anthropometric, biomechanical, physiological and psychological characteristics, only the physiological index of maximum heart rate showed a significant difference between the two groups (0.05≥p).
Conclusion: It seems that the main differences of volleyball players in these two age groups are more related to experience in the game and mastery in the implementation of various skills and techniques, and all these main features can be found in the talent search process of this group of young people.

Abstract

Background and Purpose: Frequent throwing Movements can change its muscular strength and range of motion balance shoulder athletes compared to non-athletes. The purpose of this study was to the comparison of strength ratio between agonist and antagonist muscles and range of motion of the shoulder in volleyball players and non-athletes. Research Method: Thirty female volleyball players (mean age±SD; 21±2.58 year) and thirty non-athletes individuals (mean age ± SD; 22±1.13 years) participated in this study. Manual muscle test (MMT) and Leighton Flexometer was respectively used for measuring the strength and ROM of the participants. Demographic information was collected through questionnaires. After determining the normal data distribution independent and paired samples T-test was used to analyze them. Results: In Compare ratio of agonist to antagonist muscle strength in the dominant and non-dominant hand volleyball players (p≤0.001, p=0.002) As well as dominant hand in both groups (volleyball and control) (p≤0.001, p=0.003) in the ratio of internal to external rotation and abduction to adduction strength was significant difference (P≤0.05). A significant decrease in range of motion in internal rotation and extension movements of the dominant hand (p≤0.001, p=0.005) and a significant increase in external rotation volleyball players in dominant hand was observed (p=0.026).Conclusion: Repeated pattern of movements in the volleyball sports for a long time causes muscle imbalance in strength and range of motion shoulder joint that in case of inadequate attention and lack of proper stretching and strengthening exercises to use, this asymmetry can make athletes prone to injury his performance will decrease

Abstract

Although to improve balance and grasp the proprioception, recommended balance exercises, but there is not clear mechanism for the effectiveness of equilibrium training on healthy subjects. Suitable interaction of varios system of body and environment are necessary to maintain of the balance. Balance exercise is prescribed to improve balance and proprioception. There is not clear mechanism about the effectiveness of these exercise on healthy subjects. So The purpose of this study was to the Effect of 8 weeks of ankle-specific balance training on the balance and knee and ankle proprioception of adolescent volleyball players. the statistical sample of this study was 30 adolescent volleyball players in the league Golestan Which were selected as accessible and were randomly assigned into experimental and control groups. The experimental group performed 8 weeks and 3 sessions per week of ankle-specific balance. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the mean of balance and errors in reconstructing the angles of knee and ankle after exercise in the experimental group, while in the control group it was not significant. Results of this study showed that Balance Training can improve balance and proprioception in the knee and the ankle.

Abstract

Using appropriate devices and scientific methods by coaches and trainers can accelerate the process of sport talent identification and development, and could also provide condition in which capable athletes to be directed in to suitable sport according to their abilities and skills. Former researches in scope of sport talent identification usually have been done in order to determine or normalize effective parameters. The purpose of this study was to design volleyball talent identification algorithm based on fuzzy logic which ranks the volleyball athletes. Due to expert opinion, essential parameters of volleyball talent identification which also used in this software are; Height (Anthropometry), Velocity (Ability of motion), Vertical jump with run-up (technical skill) and Pair jump (functional skill). Norms of young elite volleyball players are also used as index. Then with considering parameters and index, a fuzzy algorithm is designed which classifies volleyball players in Unmatched, Semi-matched, Matched, Brilliant and Rare class. These results can help trainers and coaches in order to select talented and capable volleyball players.

Abstract

Regarding the effects of the kinematics of the movement on athletic performance and the Importance of promoting athlete’s performance on the sport fields, there is limited knowledge about the mechanism of the effect of different variables of volleyball spike. Therefore, the aim of this study was the prediction of jump performance in elite female volleyball players with selected kinematic variables.  Thirty elite female volleyball players with mean age of 21.44±3.42 have volunteered for this study. Lower limbs kinematics have been recorded using 16 reflexive markers with Vicon motion analysis system during volleyball spike jump performance. Jump height and time of concentric phase of jump have been predicted by center of mas velocity during step, final step length and ranges of the motion of hip, knee and ankle with stepwise regression (α≤0.05). The results showed that knee range of motion center of mass velocity and step length could be the predictors for time of jump and center of mass velocity and hip range of motion could be the predictors for the jump height as well. Considering these results and the goal and situation of the volleyball match, the players should focus on different phases and affecting variables of the spike jump.

Abstract

The shoulder complex as one of the most moving joints of the body frequently was used by overhead sports athletes. Thus, musculoskeletal screening such as assessment of the range of motion (ROM), and strength variables can be useful to injury prevention strategies and further the development of conditioning and rehabilitation programs. The purpose of this study is to compare selected variables and the ratio of ROM and strength in volleyball, handball, and badminton players. A total of 36 athletes with similar physical characteristics (volleyball: age=26.65±4.56 y, weight=91.07±7.91 kg, height=185.14±12.25 cm; handball: age=27.29±3.12 y, weight=90.11±6.38 kg, height=183.52±9.67 cm, and badminton: age=26.01±4.29 y, weight=87.85±4.59 kg, height=182.38±10.74 cm) were selected to participate in the current study. A Leighton flex meter and hand-held dynamometer were used respectively to measure the ratio of ROM and strength.The results showed that the mean ratio of external(ER) strength to internal (IR) strength and ER ROM to IR ROM were significantly different between the three groups. The post hoc test revealed that badminton athletes had significant differences in all of the measured variables to both volleyball and handball athletes. But there were no differences between volleyball and handball athletes.In conclusion, preseason screening is vital in achieving optimal values on these measures and may reduce future shoulder injuries in overhead athletes.

Abstract

Purpose: Volleyball has a high potential for shoulder dyskinesia due to the repetitive nature of it’s movements, so the aim was to investigate electromyography analysis of shoulder girdle muscle in male volleyball players with different types of scapular dyskinesia while performing a floater serve.
Methods: The current research method is the causal-comparative type. 41 volleyball players were selected non-randomly and purposefully and were divided into three groups (n=13 Pattern I, n=13 Pattern II, n=13 without scapulae dyskinesia). Electromyography of serratus anterior, upper, middle, and lower trapezius was evaluated while performing a floater serve using MyoMuscle.
Results:  The results showed that during the acceleration phase of the serving, there was a significant difference in EMG of the upper trapezius (p=0.009) and middle trapezius (p=0.01) between the pattern II and no-dyskinesia, and there was a significant difference in EMG of serratus anterior (p=0.007) and middle trapezius (p=0.01) between the pattern I and no-dyskinesia,
Conclusion: It seems that during the acceleration phase, volleyball players with pattern II experienced an abnormal increase in upper trapezius activity and inhibition of the middle trapezius activity, while probably volleyball players with pattern I experience inhibition the activity of the middle trapezius and serratus anterior.
