Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the relationship of Alexithymia and female sexual function by mediating social exchange styles. the research method was a descriptive correlational. The Statistical population was composed of all married women living in Tehran, of which 550 individuals participated in the study through online recall. The research tool included Toronto alexithymia scale, the Women's Sexual Function Scale and Social Exchange Styles Scale. Fitness of the proposed model was estimated through structural equation modeling (SEM) and using Lisrel software package. The mediating relationship in the proposed pattern were tested using the bootstrap procedure. The results of structural equation modeling indicating fitness of model and showed that alexithymia with the mediation of benefit-seeking style and overinvestment style had an indirect effect on sexual function. According to the results, in order to improve sexual function should be considered in social exchange styles. The findings of the present study provide a useful framework for identifying the influential components in the field of social psychology in women's sexual function that should be considered in prevention and treatment programs.

Abstract

Risky behavior among adolescents is a common problem requiring attention and preventive interventions. Numerous studies support the contribution of cognitive and emotional deficits in the tendency to high-risk behaviors. This study aimed to predict risk-taking behaviors through decision-making styles and difficulty in emotion regulation among female adolescents. For this purpose, 200 high school students (Mage = 15. 23, SD = 1. 00) were selected via a stratified random sampling method. Participants completed the Iranian Adolescence Risk-taking Scale (IARS), General Decision-Making Style (GDMS) questionnaire, and Difficulty in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS). Findings indicated that risky behaviors significantly correlated with difficulty in emotion regulation. In addition, high-risk behaviors demonstrated a positive correlation with spontaneous decision-making and a negative correlation with rational decision-making style. The results of multiple linear regression analysis revealed the significant role of decision-making styles and difficulty in emotion regulation in predicting high-risk behaviors. Practical implications and future areas of study are discussed.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating role of metacognition in the relationship between attachment styles and online gambling addiction in adolescents. The method of the present study was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population was all male adolescents in district one of Tehran, from which a sample of 234 people were selected by convenience sampling method. The research instruments were Wells Metacognitive Beliefs Questionnaire,Wang and Chang online game addiction, and Collins and Reed attachment style. Relationships between variables were performed by Pearson correlation test and structural equation modeling test using partial least squares method. Pearson correlation test showed that there is a negative and significant relationship between secure attachment with metacognition and online gambling addiction and between positive avoidance and anxiety with metacognition and online gambling addiction and a positive and significant relationship between metacognition and online gambling addiction (0.05>P)existed. It also clarified the indirect relationship between the dimensions of attachment and online gambling addiction through metacognition and showed that metacognition plays a mediating role in the relationship between the dimensions of attachment and online gambling addiction. It is suggested that psychologists emphasize the role of attachment and metacognition dimensions for preventive interventions and awareness-raising for families and schools.

Abstract

The aim of present study is determining the fit of the obsessive beliefs model based on social perception, theory of mind or mentalization, and empathy with the mediation of emotional regulation in a non-clinical population. The sample consisted of 400 adults aged 25 to 50 in Tehran selected by using the convenience sampling method. Data collection tools included OBQ Obsessive Beliefs Questionnaire, the Emotion Recognition Task (ERT), Baron and Cohen’s (2001) Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test, Baron-Cohen and Wheelwright's Empathy Quotient Scale (2004), and Kraaij and Garnefski's Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (2019). According to the results, the exogenous variables of social perception and empathy along with the mediator variable "positive emotion regulation strategies and negative emotion regulation strategies" had a significant effect on the criterion variable i.e. obsessive beliefs. Thus, social perception, empathy and positive emotion regulation strategies were able to predict obsessive beliefs. Among the path coefficients between research variables, the coefficients of the exogenous variable of mentalization on the criterion variable (obsessive beliefs) and negative emotional regulation strategies (as a mediating variable) had no significant effect. These findings have many practical implications both for prevention and providing more comprehensive and better treatments for obsessions.

Abstract

One of the main challenges in treating chronic disease is patients' adherence to treatment instructions. The aim of this study was to determine the mediating role of resilience in the relationship between attachment styles and treatment adherence in patients with chronic disease. The research design was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population included all patients with diabetes and hypertension in Guilan province in 2020. A sample of 399 people were selected by purposive sampling method. Data were collected through the Collins and Reed's Adult Attachment Scale (RAAS), the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC), and the Modanloo Adherence to Treatment Questionnaire. Data processing was performed using path analysis technique in AMOS-24 software setting and bootstrap analysis in Macro program of Preacher and Hayes (2008). There was a significant direct relationship between adherence to treatment with resilience and secure and avoidant attachment style(p<0.01). However, there was no relationship between adherence to treatment and ambivalent attachment(p>0.05). The fit of the mediator model was improved after deleting the two non-significant paths and it was obtained a good fit by releasing the covariance error between the ambivalent attachment and the secure and avoidant attachment (CFI=1.00, RMSEA=0.086). Bootstrap analysis revealed that resilience mediates the associations between endogenous and exogenous variables. The coefficient of determination in the final model demonstrated that all exogenous and mediating variables predict 21% of the changes in the adherence to treatment. Resilience and attachment pattern are important in patients' adherence to the treatment procedure and it is suggested that skills and strategies for coping with the disease stress and increasing the capacity to adaptive coping to life-threatening conditions be included in the treatment program of patients with chronic diseases.

Abstract

Pain is an unpleasant experience, usually accompanied by potential or actual tissue injury, and is composed of emotional, sensory, cognitive, and social components. Past research has shown that both cognitive and emotional factors play a significant role in experiencing pain. An important complication of cancer is pain. More than 70 % of cancer patients experience disease-related pain. The cancer-caused chronic pain affects the quality of life of people with cancer. It also increases the risk of depression and anxiety in these patients. Psychological factors play a significant role in how patients adapt to pain. The research design was descriptive-correlational and the statistical population included people with Leukemia who had referred to clinics and hospitals in Yazd for treatment and chemotherapy. In total, 240 individuals were selected by convenient sampling method. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between metacognitions, meta-emotions, psychological flexibility and experienced pain. The presence of negative emotions and decreased mental flexibility was associated with increased pain. The role of psychological flexibility as a mediating variable between metacognition and meta-emotion with the amount of pain experienced was confirmed. It was demonstrated that metacognitions and meta-emotions, through psychological flexibility affect the degree of the pain experienced.

Abstract

Cognitive problems are a common complaint among breast cancer and MS patients. In particular, problems with executive functions may interfere with other functions in these patients. The present study was designed to compare executive functions in patients with cancer and MS. The population of the present study were kidney, urinary tract and respiratory system cancer patients who referred to Shahid Afzalii Hospital in Kerman and MS patients who referred to Shafa Hospital in Kerman in 2023, among them 45 patients with cancer (25 urinary tract and 20 system respiratory) and 45 patients with MS (20 patients with progressive types and 25 patients with relapsing -recovering type) were selected by available sampling method. In addition, 45 normal people who were matched with the patient groups in terms of age, education and socio -economic class were selected as the control group. The participants were evaluated by Rey, Stroop, Wisconsin card sorting test and Wechsler memory scale. The results of multivariate analysis of variance showed that in all components of executive functions, normal people performed better than the two patient groups. In addition, differences were observed between cancer patients and MS patients in some components of executive functions. The findings of the research indicate executive dysfunction in patients with cancer and MS and highlights the necessity of designing interventions based on executive functions for these patients .

Abstract

Death anxiety is commonly experienced by individuals with advanced cancer who have a limited life expectancy. The Death and Dying Distress Scale (DADDS) is a validated measure that was created to capture this experience; but no Persian version is available to date. We conducted a cross-sectional study to explore the psychometric properties of a Pearsion version DADDS (DADDS) in patients with advanced cancer.200 patients with advanced cancer were recruited from the Imam Khomeini, Shohada Tajrish and Baqiyatallah hospitals. Measures administered included: DADDS-C, Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), and General Anxiety Disorder-7(GAD-7). McDonald's Omega, Cronbach's alpha, Confirmatory Factor Analysis were used to test DADDS reliability and validity. The Persian version of DADDS has good reliability (internal consistency between 0.67 and 0.91 and test-retest reliability between 0.73 and 0.89) and appropriate convergent validity through correlation with PHQ-9 and GAD-7 in the range was between (0.47 to 0.51). Also, according to construct validity, SEM showed that the two-factor model is the best fitting model for DADDS in Persian language. The DADDS is a valid measure of death anxiety in Iranian patients with advanced cancer. It may provide useful information in the assessment and treatment of distress in patients near the end of life.

Abstract

The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between gender role conflict and the severity of symptoms of mental disorders and the attitude towards help-seeking in Iranian men. 302 male students of three universities, namely University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences, Tehran University and Shahid-Beheshti University, completed a questionnaire including demographic characteristics, the gender role conflict scale (O’Neil et al. 1986), Brief Symptoms Inventory (Derogatis et al., 1983), and the short form of the Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help Scale (Fischer et al., 1995). The results of simultaneous regression analysis showed that psychological distress had the most positive relationship with the factors of "work-family conflict", "restrictive emotionality" and "success, power, competition", respectively, and the attitude towards help-seeking has the most negative relationship with " restrictive emotionality " and "success, power, competition" factors, respectively. Also, the proposed structural model of the present study about the effects of the masculine gender role conflict on psychological distress from two direct and indirect paths (through the negative effect on help-seeking attitude) had a good fit. Thus, it seems that the masculine gender role conflict increases the severity of psychological distress through a negative effect on the help-seeking attitude.
