هدف اصلی این مطالعه بررسی تأثیر اندازه ی دولت بر نرخ تورم در ۳۴ کشور از کشورهای در حال توسعه طی سال های ۱۹۹۸ الی ۲۰۱۳ ¬است. برای این منظور از شاخص کل مخارج دولت به صورت درصدی از GDP، به عنوان اندازه ی دولت استفاده شده و مدل تحقیق با استفاده از تکنیک داده¬های تابلویی تخمین زده شده است. با استفاده از مطالعات تجربی و مدل های موجود عوامل موثر بر تورم شناسایی و برای اولین بار در مورد چند کشور در حال توسعه مورد ارزیابی قرار گرفت و تفاوت های میان این کشورها بررسی شد.
نتایج حاصل از این مطالعه دلالت بر این دارد که اندازه ی دولت تأثیر منفی و معنی دار بر نرخ تورم داشته و نیز متغیّرهای نرخ رشد نقدینگی، نرخ رشد شاخص قیمت واردات و نرخ بهره تأثیر مثبت و معنی¬دار بر نرخ تورم در کشورهای مورد بررسی داشته است. علاوه بر این متغیّر نرخ رشد تولید ناخالص داخلی دارای تأثیر منفی و معنی¬دار بر نرخ تورم است.
